Mid-19th Century American Country Stenciled Pie Safe
Mid-19th Century American Country Stenciled Pie Safe, Likely Shenandoah Valley, Virginia or Pennsylvania Influence, c. 1830–1850
Long red painted pie safe with unique stenciled motifs to crest and front upper flanks. Was previously wire meshed but has since been left open. It has two doors each with turn button latches, and four built-in shelves. It is a rare example of stencil work on a pie safe, with very few similar pieces if any known to exist.
Unmeshed, some minor losses to woodwork, and general wear to paint and stenciling consistent with age and use, some ring marks to top. 49” h. x 51” w. x 19” d.
