Jacobean Carved Oak Settle, English, c. 1680
This fine example of Jacobean period craftsmanship comes in the form of a large settle bench, with intricately carved upper panels with geometric strapwork, scrolling foliage, and traditional low-relief Jacobean architectural motifs common to English furniture of the period, as well as an interesting rooster motif. Throughout the piece one will find peg and joint construction, and many finely turned arms and legs.
In overall good condition, with expected age checking cracks to panels and a couple small losses, sporadic worm damage, chip patches and loss to inlay. Back is not fully sturdy and could use reinforcement. There are also some losses to feet and the top molding replaced. 62” h. x 55” w. x 24” d.
